About BoilerCodes

BoilerCodes is an independent UK guide that explains what your boiler's fault code means, whether it's something you can safely check yourself, and when you need an engineer.

Why we built it

Searching for a boiler code usually turns up forum threads, guesswork or sites trying to sell you a new boiler. The real answers are in the manufacturers' manuals, but those are long documents written mainly for engineers. We take the official meaning and put it in plain English, model by model where a code means different things on different boilers.

How we check every code

  1. Every code meaning comes from the manufacturer's own fault code lists, user manuals or help pages. We link them at the bottom of each page so you can check for yourself.
  2. Where the same code means different things on different models, we show each model's meaning separately rather than guessing which one you have.
  3. We only suggest something you can do yourself if the manufacturer says homeowners can do it, and we check it against at least two of the manufacturer's own documents.
  4. Everything else is marked as a job for a Gas Safe registered engineer. By law, only they can work on gas appliances.
  5. We keep a record of the sources behind every code on the site.

The full method is on our How we check page.

Who we are

BoilerCodes is a small independent site. We're not boiler engineers, and we're not affiliated with or endorsed by any manufacturer. That's why we stick to what manufacturers publish, and why we'll always tell you when a job needs a Gas Safe registered engineer.

How the site is funded

Where a page links to a new-boiler quote service, we earn a commission if you buy through that link, and the link is labelled as an ad. We only show these where replacing the boiler could be worth considering, and they never change what we tell you about a fault.

Spotted a mistake?

Manufacturers update their manuals, and we want every page to be right. If something doesn't match your boiler's manual, email hello@boilercodes.co.uk with the brand, model and code, and we'll check it.
